Love Being Different? Upgrade Your Sleep With Unique Beds From Select Sleep
From Bohemian to chic to a mix of the two, folks are always on the lookout for today’s “unique” beds. (Heck, we’ve seen beds shaped like hamburgers, beds that fold into storage cubes, and even beds that appear to levitate off the floor!) But finding truly unique beds at an affordable price is getting tougher and tougher in this age of foam mattresses and bed-in-a-box.
So, assuming you don’t have $30,000 to spend on some outrageous design, how do you get that crafted, bespoke feel in a bed? Are there truly alternatives to traditional beds that don’t break the bank?
Traditional Beds Are Played Out
If you’ve read this far, we don’t need to tell you how played out traditional beds are. Your typical bed has a mattress that is mass produced in the hopes it will be comfortable to enough people, and that those people are willing to pay top dollar for it.
But just as a tailored suit or altered dress will always fit you much better than something straight off the rack, a custom-made bed will let you sleep better than these mass-produced affairs.
Here are a few reasons why traditional mattresses are losing out to alternative mattress ideas:
- Space. Not every room (or sleeping area) is designed for a typically sized bed. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of bed alternatives for small spaces. If you want to use space efficiently (and keep a clean, uncluttered look) a custom design could be the way to go.
- Firmness. Everyone has their own level of firmness and support that they need to get a good night’s sleep. Large chain mattress stores would have you believe there are six or seven levels of firmness; in reality, there are so many more—and sleeping well depends on finding what’s right for you.
- Materials. Want natural materials? Or hand crafted? Ethically sourced? Hypoallergenic? With a factory-made mattress, you might get one or two of those, if you’re lucky. With a custom bed, you have much more control over what goes in your bed—and in what combination. (And the combination matters for things like firmness—see above.) Control over what your bed is made of: How cool is that?
Unique Beds Should Matter to You
At the end of the day, all crazy, cool, and unique beds were designed at someone’s request, to reflect that person’s taste, style, and personality. But who are they really trying to impress with a bed crammed into an olde tyme boat? Or shaped like a hamburger?
As cool as we want our sleeping area to be, the real reason to have a bed custom-designed is to maximize your comfort while in the bed. The customization should matter to you, first and foremost.
If that’s the case, what matters more: That your bed looks like a car or an ice palace, or that your bed has just the right mix of material and layers to give you a great night’s sleep?
Get Ready to Conquer the World
Today’s mattress companies would have you believe that the cool thing is to have a hunk of foam delivered to your door.
Stop and think about that for a second.
If you do, you’ll see that a lot of this trend is just marketing. Heck, even we sell a bed-in-a-box, and ours is totally customizable!
The point that we’ve been getting at is this: A bed that’s true to you should not be about marketing and image. It should be about craftsmanship. Care. Attention to detail. Smart materials. And, of course, finding out what can deliver the best sleep to you, night after night.
That way, you’ll wake up refreshed and renewed, and ready to take on the world. In today’s stressed-out world, that would be truly unique, wouldn’t it? In addition to a Select Sleep’s unique beds, try these tips to sleep better every night.
So stop browsing around for unique beds and alternative mattress ideas, and start thinking about a unique mattress built for you.
